Chrysalis House reopens May 5

Work is nearing completion and Chrysalis is scheduled to reopen May 5, following a fire in early February that destroyed one hallway of the apartment wing and caused smoke damage throughout the entire building.

A resident of the home at the time was charged with arson.
“Once again, we’re grateful to the entire community for supporting us,” says executive director Joy McCormack, “so that we can refurbish the shelter and supportive housing units and reopen.”
At present, phone calls made to Chrysalis, 705-789-8488 or 1-866-789-8488, are still being forwarded to Muskoka Interval House, so they can be answered 24 hours a day.
During the nearly three months since the fire, Chrysalis and MIH staff have worked closely with each other to assist clients who were displaced by the temporary closure of the facility, as well as to continue aiding and empowering women throughout the region who are dealing with abuse issues.
Both Chrysalis and MIH are operated by the Muskoka Women's Advocacy Group (MWAG), a charitable organization that has been serving the needs of abused women and children in Muskoka for over 20 years.
