One Kids Place receives award
of excellence

One Kids Place (OKP) children’s treatment centre is the proud recipient of the national HYGEIA AWARD for ‘Excellence in Health Care Communications.’
OKP won the award in the category of Special Purpose Communication – fundraising category. OKP submitted the communication products related to the capital campaign launch and came first out of 10 submissions evaluated from across Canada.
Judy Sharpe, executive director of OKP, accepted the award in Halifax recently.
The OKP capital campaign leadership team continues to engage individuals, businesses and the community to raise the remaining $3 million dollars required to build the new facility.
The new building will cost approximately $15.5 million including communication technology/furniture/equipment. The community portion of the fundraising was $6.4 million.
To date the community has raised $3.4 million (individual and corporate donations plus the City of North Bay with a $1.5 million contribution; and the Northern Ontario Heritage Corporation with a $1 million contribution). OKP will own and operate the building.
The other partners are:
z medical residents and students from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine
z local pediatricians
z Nipissing Association for Disabled Youth
z OKP will operate school readiness programs with local school boards
z OKP will be a “home” for early learning drop-in programs in conjunction with Best Start initiatives and the Ontario Early Year Centre.
One Kids Place is one-stop shopping for children’s special needs for Nipissing, Parry Sound and Muskoka.
