Wasn’t that a party!

Contrary to all the whining coming out of Toronto - the big lemon - as it is sometimes referred to - the Vancouver Olympics were fantastic.

The opening ceremonies showcased some of our First Nations dancing skills - what we called pow wow in the old days - and their beautiful chanting as well as awe-inspiring costumes.

Just tremendous.

And our athletes represented Canada with not only success but also with determination, finesse and great character. They did us proud.

Let us continue to support sports, in school, after school and at the Olympic and world levels. It is money much better spent than on crime punishment strategies.

Jon Montgomery got invited on the Oprah Show after drinking beer in the street, Prime Minister Harper got a case of beer from President Obama in a bet and the women’s hockey team won gold, but should not be seen celebrating, i.e., drinking beer in the rink after hours. Hmmm…

The closing ceremonies were joyful, funny, light - a party in other words.

Torontonian Bruce Kidd and former Olympian said, “It did not represent my Canada and who are these bozos?”

That says it all. That explains why the ROC (rest of Canada) hates Toronto.

The ROC can laugh at itself, play with the floating moose, polar bears, beavers, Mounties, snowflakes, etc. All things that the world connects to Canada.

And as for writing your name in pee in the snow, it is sort of like drinking beer in the street - only men can get away with it. And only during the Olympics.

It is life, it is what people do when they are pumped up on life and having fun.

As a Canadian, I am damn proud of each and every one of our athletes and I’m now waiting for the Paralympics.

The ten-day torch relay began Wednesday in Ottawa.

Let’s go Team Canada!
